Details

Volunteering at the Houston Food Bank is a rewarding opportunity to give back to the community by helping to provide food assistance to those in need. As volunteers, we will sort and pack food that will soon be distributed to those in need in the Houston Area.

SPECIAL NOTES:
  • Volunteers under the age of 14 must complete a Minor Waiver Form signed by a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the shift.
  • All volunteers under the age of 18 also need a completed Minor Waiver Form signed by a parent or guardian.
  • A copy of the Minor Waiver form can be downloaded by clicking the RESOURCES tab on your Volunteer Profile page.

Parking Information:
If you have space, you may park in the front parking lot, but in case of a large volunteer turnout, you may be directed to our overflow lot located behind the building.

Attire Information:
  • CLOSED-TOE SHOES ARE REQUIRED. Wear a casual dress, long pants (preferred), and a T-shirt with sleeves. Bring work gloves if desired.
  • SPECIAL NOTE: Since launching our on-site 535 Catering service in 2019, HFB no longer allows outside food and drinks to be brought into our facility to share with group members.
  • Bags and purses are not allowed in project areas for your safety. Lockers are provided for storing any items you don't want to keep in your car. However, keep personal and valuable items to a minimum (e.g., electronics, jewelry, money, etc.), as HFB is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
  • Special accommodations needed? Just let us know before your volunteer shift so we can plan accordingly.
Remember to wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes to protect your feet and to dress in layers to be comfortable throughout your shift.
